The weight came on very slow but then.....felt out of control!

Why is it that when we age that the weight seems to slowly creep up? Many of us have said it is our metabolism. It has been recently reported that our metabolism does not start slowing significantly to make a difference until 60 years of age. So, what happens? Why does it seem harder now? Why is it that we seem to just look at the cake and it shows up on the hips? I have spent hours studying and listening to women on their weight struggles and most the situation is similar.
As we get older, our lifestyle slowly changes. I know I have discussed before but sometimes we might not be fully aware of it. In our younger years, we were busy with young kids, chasing them around, lifting them up, and playing chase. We were on the dance floor at the weddings, instead of sitting at the table eating appetizers and visiting with friends. We were simply more active. Slowly, we might have only gained one pound every six months and then in six years is twelve pounds, in twelve years, is twenty-four. That is two to three sizes in pants. Another reason I have found that I think is a big culprit is when we don’t feel good or in pain, we can use food to sooth us. I know I have found myself doing this when I am exhausted or just don’t feel my best. It makes sense. When we eat, we get a hit of dopamine, and it gives us pleasure. It feels good but keep in mind that it is only temporary. That dopamine last minutes but the weight can cause us problems for years….I know to well that I used food to make me feel better.
My go to over the years was donuts. I loved donuts. I had to discover that eating the donuts took me 3-5 minutes, but the quilt of the donuts lasted all day-which led to the diet drama. Oh, did I mention chips and salsa? Or another one of my favs. You know what happened next, I would say to myself that I would eat better starting on Monday! The cycle begin. I would eat well until I cheated, then eat whatever I wanted so I could restart again and again🤷♀️.
What can we do? When we are wanting to eat the piece of cake or bowl of ice cream (that was not as a "Fun Eat" which I teach in my program), then think about how you will feel afterwards and the feelings of guilt you will have. How it will feel in your body. Also, think about your "future self" tucking your blouse in your jeans or getting on the floor to work a puzzle with the grand kids. These thoughts and visions work! Get that future self vision in your brain!
My mom let her weight get so out of control over the years and put the pressure on me not to let it happen. I know this was out of love. I would give anything now to had be able to help her. She passed away at 67, which is only 5 years older than I am. I now sit back and know she is proud that I am helping aging women to have get healthy, feel good in their bodies, and have fun. I want them to feel supported in their journey of getting to a healthier version of themselves so they can have the 3rd and 4th quarter of their lives living it up! Yep, getting on the floor playing with grand kids, going to the movies, and having lunch with friends.
Halloween is right around the corner. We took dad and his great grand sons to a pumpkin patch and a corn maize. So FUN!

Hope you enjoyed,
Janie
