Are you drinking enough water?

Now that we are spending more time outdoors, I want to ask are we drinking enough water? I know that while taking this health course, that is the first thing that is mentioned. The course recommends that we drink half our weight in ounces. So, I fill up my container each morning while making my coffee (you know the diuretic thing…lol) and start sipping up immediately. This gives me a quick boost of confidence that I can “do it”. The course gives us plenty of reasons what water does for us, and it sounded all familiar and knew that I had been given this advice before or that I had studied it before. But, did I follow the advice or use this valid information? No, I can think back in the old days where I lived on drinking diet cokes. Oh my, that was good for me 🤦‍♀️. I was young and like many of our youth today, never thought about what was good for me. So, I wanted to share with you today what water does for us and why we need to make sure we are drinking enough. Remember, I do not want to hear that you are too old to change, too tired to care, etc. We all want to feel good, look good and do more. Yes, we do. So, drink up and read on!

Is there a set amount we should all be drinking? No, there is not. Depending on many factors such as how active we are, what size, can all come into play. According to most professionals, a good guideline is to drink half your weight in ounces. If you way 130 pounds, you would drink 65 ounces of water every day. Sounds like a lot but it really isn’t bad. I have not had a problem with adding more water and like to keep up knowing that I got all my ounces in! What are the benefits to making sure we are well hydrated? Water is your body's principal chemical component and makes up about 50% to 70% of your body weight. Your body depends on water to survive. Every cell, tissue and organ in your body needs water to work properly. For example, water: Gets rid of wastes through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints (this is a reason alone when you are aging) and protects sensitive tissues. Sounds a little more serious now. What happens if we don’t get enough water? Lack of water can lead to dehydration — a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired. Most of us are walking around dehydrated but think we are hungry. Sounds almost ridiculous but it is true. We do get hydration from the foods we eat but still need to drink up. Our environment can also dehydrate us especially during the hotter months. Some of the things I have done to make drinking water more fun, I add lemons and oranges to my water jug. If I want to feel like I am at a spa, I add cucumbers or some of my new pineapple mint. Find your jug and fill it up!

Have a beautiful day! 🌻🌸🌹
