What keeps us from sticking to our goals?

Our own thoughts keep us from achieving our goals. Yes, that is right. Our own thoughts keeps us from sticking to our goals. These thoughts are totally the culprit of not achieving our dreams. We have to learn to identify these crazy little stories that show up in our brains. Yes, these thoughts are simply little stories. That is all there is to it. We let our primal brain talk us out of any type of change. Our primal brain does not like change. It wants us to stay the same. It is safe and comfortable to stay exactly where we are. If you are completely happy where you are, then that is superb. However, if you want to create change such as lose a few pounds, become more organized, have a better daily routine, then start making the changes and watch how your own brain will work against you. Yes, it will I promise. It will say, Oh Janie, we have a cough, you should rest today. Or, we should not do those two things on your list because I would rather sit here on Facebook and scroll though pictures…we can do those things tomorrow. On and on the primal brain will talk you out of your goals, dreams, and desires. It is almost silly when you think about. Our own brain keeps us from what we want. So, try it. Next time you commit to something and watch all the stories that pop up in your thoughts about why you are not going to stay committed. Try to call your brain out. No, I am not listening to you. I am not having that bowl of ice cream tonight LOL.

I have been pondering lately what changes for 2023 that I want I want to accomplish and my brain is already running a little story in it to keep it small! Is that funny. I know, I bit off a little too much with last semester classes and was a little overwhelmed. However, the feeling of accomplishment is so rewarding. Hmm, what does 2023 hold for you?

Merry Christmas!
