What is your true WHY? The why behind the why....

Sometimes we cannot achieve a goal simply because we have not really discovered our true WHY. I have found many times while coaching that we misidentify our whys. Sounds crazy, I know. I know this happens because I personally did this and could have made a horrible mistake. Luckily, I asked myself over and over why I felt I was unhappy in my marriage. Yes, many years ago, I thought I might want to leave my marriage behind and start over. However, when I realized that my unhappiness in our relationship was that I was not happy with myself. I discovered that my artificial why was that my marriage made me unhappy but my true why was because I was unhappy with myself. I kept breaking promises to myself. Fortunately, my marriage was fine, and I needed to go to work on my own self. I have worked with someone who said they needed to pay off debt because she was embarrassed that she sometimes would get denied credit. However, we discovered that she had a deep fear of not being able to retire at a descent age and she was worried about her health. Knowing her true why and discussing why she had so much fear, she immediately started finding ways to get out of dept. Almost sounds too easy, but this does help.

Ask yourself why you want to lose weight, change your career, leave the job, leave the relationship, or begin exercising. If you dig deep, you might even find that it is not the problem. Maybe it is not the true why. The why is not that important and you decide that you do not want what you thought. The job you thought wanted to leave was actually because you disliked your boss. You truly liked the job. Maybe it is as simple as finding ways to block out the negative thoughts of your boss and focus on what you do love about your job. So, ask yourself why you want something. Dig deep. Find you “true why” behind your artificial why then go to work!

Have a beautiful day!
