🌟The Power of Push-Ups: Why This Simple Move Is a Game-Changer After 50

If you’ve ever thought push-ups were just for gym class or boot camp, think again. This humble movement can become a cornerstone of your strength practice—Push-ups aren’t just about arm strength. They’re a full-body powerhouse: engaging your chest, shoulders, triceps, back, core, and legs all at once. And the best part? No equipment, no gym, no excuse—just your body and a few minutes.  Remember, the power of push-ups. You can start by doing them on your knees if need be.  Or, start with doing just one and build up.  Even with doing 2 a day. It is the consistency that is in the power.

Why did I become a believer of the power of push-ups?  After listening to one of my favorite podcasters, Mel Robbins, I decided I would add to my morning routine.  On The Mel Robbins Podcast (Episode 269), orthopedic surgeon Dr. Vonda Wright made a striking recommendation:

“Every woman should be able to do 11 push-ups—regular push-ups.”HealthVox+1

That clip went viral, inspiring thousands to test—and work toward—that goal. Still, experts emphasize that what's most important is your own progress, not a catchy number.  Again, just start with one and work up to 5, you get to decide.

Here's why I love them—and why you might too:

  • Efficient, total-body strength with zero setup.  No excuses,

 even on vacation.

  • Supports bone density, which is vital post-50

  • Improves posture and core stability

  • Customizable—you can raise your hands or adjust form to match your current level

  • Consistent, small wins that grow into massive confidence boosts

Doing 5 push-ups consistently? That’s a powerful place to be. Maybe your next move is to work toward Dr. Wright’s 11-rep benchmark—or simply to keep expanding your strength journey at your own pace.

Tomorrow, start with whatever number honors your body. And then build from there. Those reps? They’re stepping stones to strength, joy, and confidence.  Let’s go!
