A longtime girlfriend stop buy yesterday afternoon and while we were catching up, she said let me “reframe” that statement. I was amazed. I have been going through all these psychology classes and working on a life and health coach certification and both the classes and certifications have talked about the power of “reframing”. I had starting writing on the blog yesterday on a different topic but wanted to ponder on this idea of "the power of reframing".
Although I have always been a positive, glass half full, type of person, I don’t always think that being positive is going to fix everything. However, I do know that if we look at all our options on day-to-day situations, most often, we can take a positive approach. Learning to reframe some of the common, what I call, stupid negative self-talk is a great place to start reframing them. I can honestly say, that of all the things that I have learned in the Psychology-Health-Life world, this has been one of the most interesting topics. I can honestly tell you that I do believe that this could change some individual’s life. If you know someone who is downright negative Nelly, maybe tell her about my blog😜!
What exactly is “reframing”? Well, according to verwellmind magazine, Cognitive reframing is a technique used to shift your mindset so you're able to look at a situation, person, or relationship from a slightly different perspective. Cognitive reframing is something that you can do at home or anytime you experience distorted thoughts. The essential idea behind reframing is that the frame through which a person views a situation determines their point-of-view. When that frame is shifted, the meaning changes and thinking and behavior often change along with it. Some might call this perspective-taking which we all know that some individuals are good at this and some have never tried in their life! I like the way that the article described a concept to practice reframing by imagining you are looking through the frame of a camera lens. The picture seen through the lens can be changed to a view that is closer or further away. By slightly changing what is seen in the camera, the picture is both viewed and experienced differently. Reframing may be used to change the way people think, feel, and behave.
So, I want you to go about your day today and when you find yourself in a situation, or thinking of a situation, stop and think about all the other options. Is there a way that this could be a “good” thing? Is there a way that I have might be judging, or not accepting other ways of thinking? One thing I also like is the saying “you do not have to be right” statement. Meaning, all of us have opinions. When engaging in a conversation, there is usually no reason to argue. Simply by letting others think differently, is what makes the world a better place. I know, politics is one topic that could use this way of thinking more than any other 🤦♀️.
I was so excited this week on my small flower garden. I am getting lots of blooms from my bulbs! First time that I have planted over 40-50 bulbs and hope I get some beautiful flowers to cut and place in my home. I do enjoy having fresh flowers. When you buy them from a grocery store, no telling when they were cut. My niece, the one that has the urban farm, has done fabulous on her flowers and gave me the confidence to plant my own. I am heading up there soon and know that hers will probably knock my socks off! I am sure she will post some pictures on her website or social media. Check them out at ahurbanfarm! My herbs are looking good. I cooked Rockfish last night with fresh thyme, lemon, and capers. I made roasted fingerling potatoes with fresh rosemary as well. YUM. I am trying out this Wild Alaskan company for fish and so far it has been a hit! We have had Salmon, Halibut, and the Rockfish. All have been delicious. It is easy for just two people.

I hope you all have a beautiful day. Go out and get some sunshine! Look at the Hyacinth bloom and the detail and beauty!
