Is it a craving? Or is it just a "thought" that popped in up your mind?

I made a social media reel this week because I just had to share a funny moment. My husband, the other night, said he wanted a bowl of ice cream during a commercial break of a show we were watching, and I was a little surprised. The reason I was surprised is he had a health scare several months ago and his doctor recommended a Mediterranean diet and for him to watch his weight. He asked me what I would have him do if I were his coach. I said probably eliminating eating ice cream every night would be a good start, which he has done and very surprisingly easy without complaints. However, last night just seemed to come out of the blue. I said so you have a thought about ice cream, and he looked at me kind of weird. I said, it is only a thought. Are you hungry? I knew that was not the case since we had eaten dinner less than an hour before. That question produced another strange look. I then explained that if he eats a bowl of ice cream now, he will most likely turn to me five minutes later and ask, “why did I eat that?”. He nodded and agreed. I then explained that if he still had ice cream on his mind, then this weekend, he should plan on having some and enjoy eating it. I don’t coach my husband. I just offer a few tidbits now and then when I know he will not notice LOL.

In my program, I encourage my clients to have a “fun eat” that is planned at least 24 hours in advance. The reason is that then they can actually enjoy without regret and most importantly without judgment and self-sabotaging. I know this all too well. I used to snack on cheese and Triscuits while making dinner years ago and then sit down and eat dinner! And wonder why I was not so hungry. The problem is that most often, the crackers and cheese had way more calories than the meal itself and was not near the nutritional value. Plus, the meal does not taste as good if you have had a plate of crackers and cheese!

So, give it a minute before you react to a "food thought" that pops in your head. I cannot tell you how many times I have sat down in the evening and have a thought of popcorn or a bowl of nuts. I am a SALTY kind of girl. LOL. Now, I say to myself, are you hungry? No- 99.5% of the the time and I start thinking of what I am feeling....by then it passes. It usually never hangs around. And, if it does, make a plan to have it as a "FUN EAT" and enjoy.

Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed! Be healthier today than yesterday! When we go out to a special dinner, Louis does have dessert and it is usually planned!
