As the leaves change color and the air turns crisp, it's the perfect time to refresh our wardrobe and embrace the latest fall fashion trends. I am a strong believer in when we look good, we feel good. Try it. If you are a woman who does not spend time putting yourself together, at least give it a try. Take a few extra steps this week in deciding what to put on. Even if no is going to see you, you will still see yourself. It is just as easy to put something on that makes you feel ugly than to make you feel pretty. I truly believe that when we do this, it makes feel better. Think about that. I am asking you to spend 5 minutes more deciding each day what you are putting on. Just 5 more minutes.
In this blog, I am going to share some fashion tips that can get you out of the same ole things. So, why did I get onto this subject? Well, I got a call from my niece who works for an oil company in Oklahoma. She also is a mother of two small, adorable boys and helps her husband with a small urban farm business. She is extremely busy with life. Anyway, she called to talk about updating her wardrobe. For those who know me, you know I loved the conversation. I was in the fashion business for well over 30 years and still love fashion. Yes, since I have been working from home, my wardrobe has changed but I still am looking for new pieces and follow a few influencers to keep up. My advice to her was to invest in timeless pieces. Here is my advice for women over fifty! Always remember it does not have to be expensive to look and feel great. It is more in how we wear it! Get that attitude too! Just 5 more minutes to decide what to where to look and feel better. So worth it!
So, here you are!
Invest in a few fun pieces. Pieces that can be mixed back to each other. If you work, classic pieces such as a well-fitted black blazer, a pair of black trousers, nice pair of dressy jeans, a crew neck cotton knit shirt and turtleneck. If you don’t work, the jacket can be unstructured. I like a nice leather jacket as well. These staples can be mixed and matched with trendy items to create a chic and age-appropriate look. I like to add a scarf. Yes, I am a scarf girl. Even if you work at home, or retired, spend a few minutes putting yourself together. Look good for yourself. I promise it works. When we look good, we feel good. Period. Okay, I don’t wear a scarf around the house but when I leave, I spruce up my jeans and t shirt by adding a jacket and maybe a scarf. Of course, fun earrings. Just 5 more minutes to decide!
Earthy Tones. Fall is all about earthy and warm tones, so this season, opt for colors like olive green, camel, rust, and deep burgundy. These shades flatter our complexion, giving us a sophisticated appearance-like we are on trend. Most skins tones look great in fall colors. These colors look great back to black or chocolate basics. You can go to Target and buy a few crew neck T-shirts in olive and rust. They have some good colors. I loved the mustard. I do this each season. They have long and short sleeves and sure they will have turtlenecks by now. Put these with your pants, throw on a cardigan or jacket, and you are set.
Layer Up. Fall is my favorite time to be fashionable and layering makes it fun. Add lightweight scarves, cardigans, and vests to your outfit for both warmth and to be more stylish. Layering allows you to be creative with fewer pieces. By simply adding jacket and scarf to your jeans and t-shirt gives you an effortless but chic look.
Comfortable Shoes BUT STYLISH! A must. I bought loafers this fall. I love them. They are a little clunkier than I am used to but so comfortable. I ditched the high heels when going out and now try to stick to 2-inch max. I love extra heights. Boots are so fun. I love to wear boots in the fall. I am sticking with the ones that I have and will make them work!
Stay True to Your Style: Age should never restrict our personal style. Now, that does not mean we should be wearing miniskirts and halters. But you can have fun still. Keep continuing to express yourself through your fashion! Wear what makes you feel fabulous. Whether you prefer a classic, bohemian, or edgy look, stay true to your style while incorporating fall trends. Don’ t be afraid. Look in your closet and experiment. Below is a black leather jacket that I have owned for years. Yep, and some cheap big earrings that I bought on girls trip! I could add a colorful tee next time.

Fashion can be both elegant and trendy. By incorporating a few of these tips, you can refresh your wardrobe and embrace your outfits with confidence and style. Remember that the most important thing is to feel comfortable and confident in your outfits, so have fun experimenting with new looks and make the most of this gorgeous season! Remember, it takes just 5 more minutes extra to make yourself feel and look better. When we look good, we feel good. Try it.
