Have you ever heard the term warm fuzzy? How about a cold prickly? When I was a freshman in high school, I had a homemaking teacher that I was extremely fond of Her name was Mrs. Perez. She was one of the young teachers and I remember thinking she had such stylish clothes. I don’t know what happened to her but would love to tell her that she had a lot of influence on my love of fashion, fragrances, cooking, and her love of books. Anyway, I remember Mrs. Perez telling me that one of her favorite stories was warm fuzzies and cold pricklies. She described the story and all I remember is making people feel good is a warm fuzzy but being mean or hateful is a cold prickly. Remember, back then, I could not just go google the story or by the book on amazon. I have been thinking of this story since I mentioned to a man in line at Kroger that the cashier needed a warm fuzzy. The gentleman kind of laughed but I do not think he had any idea what I was talking about. I then kindly said that the cashier has probably had a rough day dealing with all of us and needed a few kind words. Yes, I gave her that warm fuzzy. When I got home, I wanted to research where this story came from. I found a scout leaders summary of the story that he must have given to his troop. I read his summary and then searched the original. When I first looked at it and began to wonder why the troop leader rewrote the story, since it was short, and just not give his troop the original story. I then read the original and laughed when the story referred to the lady with big hips! Lol, the original was written in 1969. I was eight. Needless to say, a lot has changed since then. I find it funny that for over 45 years, I have used the terms both warm fuzzy and cold prickly and just now researched the book on where these terms came from. Oh well, we all need to give out a few extra warm fuzzies during the Holiday Season even when we are given a few cold pricklies!
Go have a warm cup of cocoa and give yourself a warm fuzzy!
